Wawrinka captures the 2011 Aircel Chennai Open

Third seeded Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI) defeated 7th seeded Xavier Malisse (BEL) 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to win the Singles title at the 2011 Aircel Chennai Open.

Wawrinka and Malisse played what was the most anticipated singles match of the entire tournament. Wawrinka got 60% of his first serves in and broke his opponent in the 8th and 12th game of the first set, winning it 7-5. The 7th seeded Malisse came back strongly in the second set to win it 6-4, despite being on the receiving end of 4 Aces. The third set saw Wawrinka, who lost in the finals last year to Marin Cilic, break the Belgian player in the 2nd and 6th game, to win the deciding set 6-1.

The fans at the stadium were ecstatic to see the 3rd seeded Stanislas Wawrinka, who is widely recognized for having one of the best one-handed backhand in the game today, pull off a win to secure the singles title at the 2011 Aircel Chennai Open.
