Soeda beats Bopanna in Aircel Chennai Open 2012 singles qualifiers

CHENNAI, 01 Jan 2011 - Go Soeda of Japan scored a hard-fought 7-6 (2) 7-6 (2) victory over India's Rohan Bopanna in the qualifying draw second round of the Aircel Chennai Open 2012 at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium on Sunday.

The main draw of India's only and South Asia's leading ATP World Tour event will be held from January 2-8 and will feature a heady list of Indian and global stars including Serbian world No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic and Spanish world No. 10 Nicolas Almagro.

The remaining two Indians in the qualifiers - wild card Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash - also lost in the second round.

World No. 120 Soeda won the match in over two hours.

The final round of the qualifiers, which will determine the four qualifying slots in the 28-man main draw, will be held on Monday.
